The Wood Floor is a small community of 2,000 in the heart of Portland, Oregon, that includes a small but cozy community pool, which will be renovated and rebranded as the Under the Stairs pool, with a view overlooking the city from its first floor.
“I’m really excited to be part of it,” said one resident.
“We’ve been talking about doing it for a while now.”
In addition to the pool, the Wood Floors community will also have a gymnasium, an indoor tennis court, a dog park, a fitness center, a library, a food pantry, a yoga studio, and an outdoor garden.
While some residents have reservations about what they will be seeing at the pool—including the fact that it will have no outdoor seating—there are also plans to offer some outdoor space.
“I want to make sure that I’m not walking into a house that is full of children and the parents are not happy because there’s a kid playing basketball or doing yard work,” said resident Karen Leighton.
“They have to be able to take the kids out, and if they’re not happy about that, then they have to deal with that as well.”
“The community will be really proud of the place,” said the community’s CEO, Mike Stegmaier.
For the community to move forward, they have decided to renovate the pool in the hopes that the city will eventually provide them with a state-of-the-art pool for their use.
“We know that the water quality and the water safety is going to be the number one priority for the community, and we want to be as safe as we can be,” said Stegman.
The Wood Floards community will soon be moving to a new home.
The community is looking for a new owner.
